Columbus at a Glance

Columbus, the capital of Ohio, is situated in the center of the state and is a thriving metropolitan area of 1.7 million people.  It is the largest city in Ohio, the 15th largest city in the United States and one of the fastest-growing cities in the northeast quadrant.  Columbus is within 550 miles of more than half of the nation’s population, less than one day’s drive away for many U.S. residents.  Located in the heart of the largest concentration of population and economic activity in North America, the Greater Columbus area offers the cosmopolitan advantages of a large city with the serenity of the countryside only minutes away.  Couple that with an extremely reasonable cost of living, and it’s easy to see why the Columbus area is truly an outstanding place to live, work and raise a family.

Like variety?  Columbus has built an entire city around it with a patchwork of communities each with their own distinct character and offerings.  From the historic to artsy, the trendy to high fashion, and the college life; all within one very manageable, friendly city with charm and an easygoing style.  While it’s big enough to have almost anything you need, the city is still small enough that people who live here feel part of a community, with a stake in its future and a chance to be heard.

How about diversity?  Diversity is the characteristic of Columbus’ growing population.  As we emerge into one of the Midwest’s most diverse cities, the Columbus Community Relations Commission is excited to promote activities in which our residents from around the world are able to share their native music, dress, food, and goods and wares through retail shops, restaurants and festivals.  Columbus celebrates the vast cultures represented by events such as the Asian Festival, JuneteenthOhio Festival, Greek Festival, German Village Oktoberfest and Festival Latino to name a few.

Columbus has a dynamic business climate, mature arts organizations, lively restaurant and nightlife scene, an extensive and well-maintained parks system and a busy calendar of year-round entertainment.  We are also proud to be the home of great professional, amateur and collegiate sports, including the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, MLS’s Columbus Crew, Triple A baseball’s Columbus Clippers and the beloved OSU Buckeyes.  There is never a reason to be bored in Columbus, where an array of attractions offers something for everyone.
